What riding discipline does IBR follow?

All IBR rides follow a strict riding discipline designed to keep the group safe, organized and respectful towards other road users. Riders are expected to follow and pass behind the instructions and signals given by the Ride Captain and ride marshals, maintain the designated formation, avoid unnecessary overtaking or sudden manoeuvres, and maintain a safe distance of at least two motorcycle lengths from the bike ahead. There is no racing, stunt riding or behavior that puts the rider, the group or other road users at risk.

2. What road safety measures should I follow during IBR rides?

Every rider is responsible for riding safely and following applicable traffic rules throughout the ride. Maintain lane discipline, keep a safe distance, avoid sudden lane changes and do not speed to catch up with the group. Never block or inconvenience other vehicles, and avoid unnecessary honking, revving or any behavior that creates a nuisance on the road. Other motorists, pedestrians and local communities should always be treated with respect.

3. What are the rules around overtaking and riding within the group?

IBR rides are not races. Overtaking should only be done when necessary and when it can be completed safely without disturbing another rider or road user. Riders should maintain their designated position and formation wherever applicable and avoid weaving through the group, cutting across riders or making unpredictable movements. If a rider gets separated from the group, they should not attempt to catch up by speeding or riding dangerously.

4. What riding gears are mandatory on IBR rides?

Full riding gears are mandatory on all official IBR rides. Riders and pillions must wear a certified full-face helmet, armored riding jacket or protective gears, full armored gloves, armored riding pants or leg protection, and proper riding shoes or boots with ankle support. Riders should also ensure their motorcycles are roadworthy before joining a ride, including checking essentials such as tyres, brakes, lights and fuel.

5. Are there any restrictions on using phones, taking photographs or performing stunts while riding?

Yes. Riders must always remain in control of their motorcycles. Stunts, wheelies, burnouts, racing and similar activities are strictly prohibited in IBR rides. Taking both hands off the handlebar for photographs or videos is also strictly prohibited. Saddling or standing on the foot-pegs may be done only when appropriate for the situation and when the rider remains fully in control of the motorcycle. Mobile phones should not be used while riding; riders should pull over safely before using their phones or taking photographs.

6. What should I do if I need to stop, leave the group or face an emergency?

If you need to stop, refuel, attend to a mechanical issue or leave the ride, inform the Ride Captain or ride marshal whenever possible and move to a safe location. In case of a breakdown or emergency, communicate with the ride team rather than trying to resolve the situation while remaining in the riding formation. If you get separated from the group, do not speed or ride dangerously to catch up. Follow the ride plan and contact the designated ride coordinator.

7. What behavior is expected from IBR members during a ride?

Every IBR rider represents the club on the road. Riders are expected to be courteous, responsible and considerate towards other road users. Consumption of alcohol or any intoxicating substance before or during a ride is strictly prohibited, as is riding under the influence. Riders must not provoke or engage with other motorists, create unnecessary noise or nuisance, or behave in a way that brings the club or fellow riders into disrepute.

8. What happens if a rider repeatedly violates IBR riding discipline?

Riding discipline is not optional. Ride leaders may intervene, ask a rider to stop participating in the ride, or report serious/repeated violations to the appropriate IBR authorities. Existing IBR membership guidelines also provide for disciplinary action, including removal of members who do not adhere to club rules or have disciplinary issues.
