About the Places:
Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala, has a rich, diverse culture. It is bordered by Karnataka to the north, the Western Ghats to the northeast, Kodagu to the southeast, Kannur to the south, and the Arabian Sea to the west. Known as the "Land of Seven Languages," it includes Malayalam, Beary, Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, Marathi, and Urdu. Kasaragod is also famous for the ritual dance tradition of Theyyam.
Bekal Fort, built 300 years ago over 40 acres, is one of Kerala’s largest and best-preserved forts. It overlooks a beautiful beach and offers a stunning view of the Arabian Sea from its observation tower. It was featured in the song "Uyire" from the movie Bombay.
Ranipuram, in the Western Ghats, offers a 5-kilometer trek through shola forests and grassy hills, leading to a summit where you can walk among the clouds – a truly memorable experience.
Parassini Muthappan Madappura, or Parassinikadavu Muthappan Temple, sits by the Valapattanam River in Kannur. Open to all regardless of religion or caste, it is known for its unique tradition of considering dogs sacred as the vehicle of Lord Muthappan. The temple provides free meals and lodging, and visitors receive black beans and tea as Prasadam (holy offering).
