Guy's I have a question….Mayybe it's my westernn brain which as you know doesn't work the same as the Indian brain but haave I done something too offend anybody? I offer my complete hand tools annd nott one single persson replies. If I have offended peopple at least tell me so I can remove the post thanks guys

A bit of a story.

Many years ago I was riding my much loved Honda 250 everywhere. I think it's the only time my mother has heard me volunteer to go to the shops for her! Anyway to the point riding along a dual carriageway which is a two lane highway and all the traffic up in front started to slow up in an accident or something and I went for my brakes and I gotta mushy front disc and practically no back break at all well two seconds later I was wide awake hauling on the front brake standing on what was left of the rear brake and the God's were with me and I got it stopped.

As I was sitting there waiting for the front Break stop smoking, a guy on a very nice Triumph pulled in next to me.
What's the problem mate, I explained that I had lost my brakes, he stood back looking at my rear wheel, went to his bike and from inside the side panel took out a green roll of tools.
Now anyone who knows the early Honda's knows how the back breaker is adjusted and a great big long thread to take up the tension between pedal and brake shoes. He pulled out a spanner and within five minutes I had the best back breaks I'd had for months…… A simple adjustment I knew nothing about. As he was putting away the tool roll he handed me a cross head screwdriver, he explained that that was the first piece of the toolkit that I should always have with me whenever I'm out riding and what's more I should know how to maintain my own bike. Well I thanked him and off he went and off I went with a new screwdriver stuck in my pocket.
Over the years I have learned to maintain any bike riding and in the panel wrapped up in a piece of rag there is a full toolkit for the bike any simple repair job can be done on the road once you know what you're doing and if you have the tools with you. I saw a guy a few weeks ago parked outside a shop his chain was bright orange rust was it that he just didn't care or was it that he didn't know how to lubricate it?
Now I know not everybody can afford tools for their bike so I thought I would do what that fine gentlemen did for me, he got me started on learning about my bike he got me started always carry a toolkit from then till now I always have.

Anyway the point of all this is that I am giving away all my basic hand tools and a few other odds and ends some useful some may be not so.
I have spoken to Udaipur moderator who is going to arrange to have them picked up and taken to Bulletiapa and tipped out on tarpaulin with the simple instruction if you need it and can use it take it with my blessings. The idea is that someone with no tools may end up with the beginnings of their own tool kit.
There is some good stuff in there, a couple of socket sets spanners et cetera and because nobody else wanted it I have thrown in a chainsaw! Quite what you would use it for the bike I have no idea but it's there for somebody who needs one.
Well that's it guys my hope is that one day stuck in the middle of nowhere with a simple repair to do I may just have encouraged someone to carry those tools with them.

YoBro, Thanks for your kind words we will miss IIndia so very very much. We have no intention of returning to the UK..... It''s too cold and wet. After 15 years in India we just couldn't handle it.
Plan a at the moment seems to be Sri Lanka we are at the moment making enquiries abouut moving there but to be quite honest we have no idea where were going to end up! Another step in the ongoiing adventure that is our life.

15 years ago I came to India as a stupid foreigner! I met a guy called Sujit and a guy called Manchirag And with a couple of others IBRMC Udaipur was born. Many evenings were spent planning routes sitting on my main room carpet. It was a good time that I will never forget. Since then I have seen so much of India both with the brotherhood and solo. To say that Christine and I love this country would be an understatement. We have many fantastic memories of Bulletiapa's and rides to some of the strangest places I have ever seen... Amazing India.
We had intended that this year I would be come a citizen however the Indian government disagree. In short Christine cannot get a work permit any more and has to leave the country. This has devastated both of us, 15years and plans still to play out and suddenly it is all over.
IBRMC Udaipur means a great deal to me even not being able to ride, just reading of their exploits and looking at their pictures has done a lot to keep me sane since my heart attack which stopped me working on my project: motorcycle and sidecar which still sadly sits in my garage complete but just needing to be put together again something that I dont have the ability to do anymore.
This move from India means we will not be taking furniture, fittings, tools etc so basically everything we own over the next few days get sorted and over the next few days I will list them on this site. I have loads and loads of tools which I will also photograph and list obviously this is done on a "You collect it" basis.
Christine and I cannot explain how terrible and hurt we feel over leaving what has become our home together.
I am hoping someone will give me a lift for my last independance day ride. It seems so hard to say that this will be my last.

As a lot of you know Christine my wife has been trapped by Indian bureaucracy in England for 15 months. I have remained here to look after Gita and the house. Christine has had to rent a flat to live in. Over this 15 months paying for two lots of rent food electricity et cetera on one pension has been almost impossible. It has been a hard time for us during which we borrowed money from friends and the bank to survive and to pay for airfare and visa costs. We have debts in excess of 5 lakh. I would very very much like to attend bulletiapa but I simply cannot afford to. I feel repaying those that helped us is the honorable thing to do. So I am very sorry I won't be seeing my Bro's this year which is a shame because I have never been north towards the mountains. I hope you have a fantastic time somebody raise a glass to me and Christine reunited at home here in India.

Has Udaipur planned any route this year?

As most of you know I had a long period where I have not been at all well.
During this time I went from not being able to walk, then into a wheel chair and now on my feet with the aid of a stick.
A lot of you who have seen me at the last bulletiapa in the wheelchair
Now for both psychological and physical reasons I want to get rid of it. It's practically brand-new one careful owner and and I will never use it again
I don't want to sell it i just want to go to someone deserving,Please pass the word around and if you know anyone all i want is to give someone what the chair gave to me........ mobility when I needed it most.
All they have to do is collect it. As a bonus it has IBRMC patches on it!

I completely agree that safety must be our top priority on a long run, or for that matter even on a short run. I think the answer is I will buy a full face that has a detachable chin guard so I can ride it open face around town or just a general day-to-day use but on a long run for the chin guard so that it gives me total protection. Thanks for the reply.
On another point when is our next meeting? I'm a lot better now and can walk a reasonable distance even if it is with a stick (which I hope to get rid of soon) and would very much enjoy meeting my IBRMC brothers it has been a long time and I miss you guys.

Hi guys, a word on helmets.
I know our rules say full face helmets but I have ridden all my life with an open face helmet. Full face makes me feel claustrophobic and disconnected from the world about me.
For discussion; I respectfully ask can we make the rule the riders choice?
I agree that full face is safer but I just cannot cope with the claustrophobic feeling and reduction in peripheral vision.

When is the next monthly meet and time and place?

It sounds as though it was a truly wonderful ride and a spiritual experience. Sadly it would have been impossible for me even if I was fitter.................... old and battered going down the chains….. No problem coming back up would be a different matter entirely! Ha Ha

As some of you are aware the last few years have been horrendous for me and for Christine. I'm not going to list all our problems let it be enough that we can definitely say things are getting better and we are both looking forward to actually riding again. It has been a huge hole in our lives not being able even to make it to meetings.
Bless you all for the help and support you gave us during my heart attack and in the months following we will never forget the support of IBRMC, without you brothers I would not be alive today.
