Himalayan 450 - OEM Rear Rack and Top Box - Rattling Issue

  • Hi folks,

Was wondering if anyone else has faced this issue.

I have the OEM Rear Rack and Top Box for my Himalayan 450.

Recently, it has started rattling, specifically when I go over sharp bumps or potholes on the road.

I have already checked the following:

    1. Without the Top Box and only the Rear Rack, there is no rattle. So, issue must be with top box
    2. There are no loose elements on the Top Box. The bottom latch and screws are tight and the box closes tight too.
    3. All the washer-like things at the bottom of the box are tightly fitting into the rear rack grooves, so don't think any adjustments are needed there.

So, given this, I genuinely am not able to figure out why the rattle happens.

Thought I'll post here and check if anyone else is facing or faced this issue?

  • Bro, is there anything inside the top box causing the rattling 😆

@Shainoj I've tested for the rattle with an empty box too, and it rattles. 😐

  • @shibsk92 - I hope you're locking the latch securely inside the box and tightening it properly. I've also noticed a slight amount of movement when I try to shake the box left and right after tightening it, but there hasn't been any rattling while riding.
If both your rack and top box are still under warranty, I'd recommend contacting the Royal Enfield service center to have them inspect it or file a warranty claim if necessary.

@devan_dew Actually since then, I told the service center guys that I have this issue. Then those guys tightened it and have it back. It still has some rattle to it, but not as bad as when I originally posted the query, so able to live with it types.

Although now I always have second thoughts about removing the top box and re-fitting it cuz I feel like I'll mess up the tightening. But tbh, I do tighten it a lot! So, not sure what they did differently.

@shibsk92 What exactly is causing the rattling ? The box or the top box mounting plate ? if its the plate ? how about some packing to fill the gaps if any ?

@devan_dew actually when I try and shake the box or the plate separately when the bike is parked, nothing moves. Everything is tight as hell. But when I ride, especially on these smaller bumps on the road, the rattle kicks in. So, I genuinely have no idea where it's coming from, even today. But it does come. 😐

  • Undertsood. Lets up catch up during next ride and see what it is

    @devan_dew sounds fair mate. 👍🏽

Another way is to post it under General discussion category and if chapter mods wants to make it (the meet or the ride) official, they can move the post to Events section.

Hello Everyone! Khama Ghani Recently in our chapter attempt leg 1 which is approx of 1650 Kms, me and @ankush1044 have used Bluarmor C30 and here's user experience : Connectivity : Not faced any issue while in range over ridegrid intercom to intercom. Though claimed range of 1.2 Kms (LOS) is still questionable. It worked flawlessly in the range of 800-900 Mtrs I suggest. Not faced a single issue of disconnection in bluetooth connectivity during the whole trip (used for 4 days). Audio quality: Not used many but I think bluarmor is providing exceptional audio quality at this price point. Voice is clear and loud even at the high speed. (it may differ with Helmet, I'm using it with LS2 Storm). Music playback is also above satisfactory, considering it as a budget device. Highs and Mids are clear while Bass fades with higher speed. Ergonomics: Buttons placement in circular way is good thought as it will help rider with identification during gloves on, but functional arrangement of Volume up & down through left and right button, and call merging function with double press of up button is something let down. Also buttons are hard to press and placement is too cramped, identifying and pressing specially double press during rides with gloves on is a challenge. Battery life: Full day of ride intercom + bluetooth connected with phone, answering calls and music playback has only consumed 40% of battery. Always left with battery around 60 to 65% at the end of the day. Thus you can use it for two full day in single charge and throw everything on it. Inter connectivity with other Bluarmor devices: As I already posted in chapter run thread, We rode with @kcna and @the.h.maverick from Indore to Sawai Madhopur. While Anand Sir has C50 and Sapan C30, All three are connected over private ridegrid connection. There were one or two occasional drop in ridegrid connectivity when answering call, which restored automatically. Overall, I'm fully satisfied with the device. Full marks in Audio quality, distinction in Connectivity and features while grace marks in usability due to button placement and feel.

@satty I'm also thinking probably best to play it safe now. Will just go with OEM parts itself. Not worth losing warranty over I feel. Or atleast, not worth losing it immediately after purchase.
